Canadian Closed Championships 2010

The Canadian Closed Championships were held on April 2nd & 3rd this year at the Mariott Hotel in Calgary, AB.  The CCCs, as everyone calls it, determines who the Canadian Champions are in each category, as well as the National Representatives to the World Championships.  Typically, in most categories, the 1st and 2nd placed couples earn the right to compete at the Worlds.

Couples train hard all year to vie for the title and to represent Canada at the World Championships.  For many years, Joel and I would plan our training in order to peak right at the Easter long weekend in April.  There was a lot of pressure and huge expectations that we had to fight in order to perform at our very best.  When the Canadian Championships were held in BC, we placed 2nd in Canada, qualifying us to compete at the World Championships in Austria.

Looking back at that experience makes us proud that we have been the only BC couple to reach that high of a placing in the Adult Amateur Standard Championships in the past 40 years!  The blood, sweat and tears were all worth it!  Standing up there on the podium was one of the most glorious moments of our Amateur careers, shared by an elite group of competitors year after year.

This year, the following hard working and dedicated couples have qualified to compete at their respective World Championships as Team Canada members:
